Shakespeare Live! From the RSC hosted by David Tennant and Catherine Tate has been nominated for a Virgin BAFTA TV Award.
The special event which broadcast on April 23rd, 2016 has been nominated in the ‘Live Event’ category alongside THE CENTENARY OF THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME THIEPVAL (BBC), STAND UP TO CANCER (Channel 4), THE QUEEN’S 90TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION (BBC).
The 2-hour star-studded gala which broadcast live on BBC One from the Royal Shakespeare theatre in Stratford Upon Avon was a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Shakespeare’s plays and their enduring influence on music, dance, opera, musical theatre and comedy. The idea of The RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran.
It featured a huge cast including Dame Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch and Helen Mirren. Along with John Lithgow, David Suchet, Joseph Fiennes, Rufus Wainwright, Tim Minchin, Al Murray, Meera Syal, Alison Moyet, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Paapa Essiedu, Pippa Nixon, Alexandra Gilbreath, the Royal Ballet, the Orchestra of the Swan.
The BAFTA TV Awards will be held at London’s Royal Festival Hall on May 14th.
