The excellent crime drama Broadchurch created and written by Chris Chibnall has gone out with a bang winning big at tonight’s TV Choice awards. The shows third and final series premiered in the UK on ITV in February 2017.

The shows lead actors David Tennant (DI Alec Hardy) and Olivia Colman (DS Ellie Miller) won individual awards for Best Actor and Best Actress while the show itself went away with Best Drama Series.

Tennant was there to accept the award for Broadchurch saying “When you make a TV show you hope its good.. the fact it’s voted for by viewers who show how great it is.”

Olivia Coleman was unable to accept her award in person as she is currently on stage but she sent a message.

Tennant was soon back on stage to accept his award for Best Actor saying, “To win a prize for this is the icing on the cake… It was five fantastic years & this is a great way to send it off.”

Other award winners included Mary Berry (Outstanding Contribution), Peter Kay’s Car Share (Best Comedy), Little Boy Blue (Best New Drama), Best Talent Show went to the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and the Best Soap award went to Emmerdale.
