Episode 3 of the new series of Broadchurch premieres tonight on ITV at 9 pm.
DI Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) continue the investigation into a serious sexual assault but victim Trish Waterman (Julie Hesmondhalgh) seems a little reluctant to open up. She may have information that – although not related to the attack – could help the investigation.
With 50 men at the party where the attack took place, Broadchurch CID are slowly making their way through the painstaking process of interviewing witnesses and collecting statements. However, they start to uncover inconsistencies and lies – and previously hidden connections between Trish and some suspects.
About Broadchurch 3
The 8-part series co-produced for ITV by Kudos, Imaginary Friends and Sister Pictures, explores the consequences of a serious sexual assault as a Dorset community comes under the scrutiny of Hardy and Miller’s investigation. Based on a year of research with Dorset-based organisations who specialise in dealing with victims of sexual assault, and police advisors who specialise in investigating crimes of sexual violence, Broadchurch’s final chapter looks at the emotional cost to all of those involved and the irreparable damage to friendships and relationships.
Joining David Tennant and Olivia Colman is Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan as Beth and Mark Latimer along with Arthur Darvill as local Vicar Paul Coates, Carolyn Pickles as newspaper editor Maggie Radcliffe and Adam Wilson as Ellie’s son Tom.
Broadchurch 3 also has a few new faces including award-winning Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh as Trish, the sexual assault victim. BAFTA winner Georgina Campbell, Charlie Higson and Mark Bazeley along with Sarah Parish, Lenny Henry and Roy Hudd.
The final series is executive produced by Chris Chibnall (Malaterra, The Great Train Robbery, Torchwood) for Imaginary Friends and Jane Featherstone (River, Humans, Gracepoint) for Sister Pictures. Dan Winch (Indian Summers II, What We did On Our Holiday) will produce the final series. Directors include Paul Andrew Williams (The Eichmann Show, Murdered by My Boyfriend), Daniel Nettheim (Doctor Who, Humans, Line of Duty) and Lewis Arnold (Banana, Prey, Humans)
