ODEON Cinemas are the latest to announce that they will be screening Richard II, starring David Tennant, on 13th November 2013. More than 100 UK cinemas are now taking part in the first Royal Shakespeare Company production to be broadcast live as part of their Live from Stratford-upon-Avon Season, with more to be announced. International screenings are expected to be announced later this month.
Richard is King. A monarch ordained by God to lead his people. But he is also a man of very human weakness. A man whose vanity threatens to divide the great houses of England and drag his people into a dynastic civil war that will last 100 years.
RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran directs David Tennant in the title role. David will be joined by Michael Pennington as John of Gaunt, Oliver Ford Davies as the Duke of York, and Nigel Lindsay making his RSC debut as Bolingbroke. Richard II runs in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from 10th October to 16th November 2013, then transfers to the Barbican Theatre in London from 7th December 2013 to 25th January 2014. The Stratford-upon-Avon production is sold out, but tickets are still available for the London run. See the RSC or Barbican websites for ticket details.
