There was confirmation today that Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page will be joining David Tennant and Marc Wootton in the cast of Nativity 2: The Second Coming. Joanna will be playing the pregnant wife of David’s Mr. Peterson, a role that was originally thought to be taken by Sheridan Smith. David’s character is said to be an over-anxious supply teacher and a reluctant father-to-be who takes up a new position at the struggling and underfunded St. Bernadette’s School. He is also said to be playing his own twin brother, also a teacher, albeit a far more successful one.
Another confirmed star is Jason Watkins, who returns in the role of Gordon Shakespeare, a competitive teacher at rival school Oakmoor. And this time round, St. Bernadette’s has not one but two major competitors, with the other in the shape of ultra-posh private school St. Cuthbert’s College, all competing for the top prize in the national ‘Sing A Song For Christmas’ campaign, leading to a madcap and disastrous cross-country trip.
A spokeswoman from the production said: “St Bernadette’s hit the road – obviously without parental permission – with a chorus of angels and a posse of shepherds only to get lost in the winter wilderness.”
Today filming was continuing on location in mid-Wales with various sightings in the square of a small village in Powys. The project from Mirrorball Films, is written and directed by Debbie Isitt and produced by Nick Jones and is due in cinemas late in 2012.
