Recording has now been completed for the new Shakespeare Sonnets Apple iPad app. Co-producers Illuminations tweeted earlier that the filmmaker Todd MacDonald had just delivered the last of the filmed sonnets to Touch Press, publishers of interactive books in new formats, including the iPad.
The Shakespeare’s Sonnets app is a joint venture between Illuminations and Touch Press along with Faber and Faber and The Arden Shakespeare. The 154 sonnets and one dedication are read by a number of actors including David Tennant, Sir Patrick Stewart, Stephen Fry, Ben Crystal and Fiona Shaw, with other names yet to be announced.
It is reported that the app cost a six-figure sum to produce, with Faber contributing a five-figure sum. With the final sonnets filmed, the app is expected to be released later this month at a cost of around £9.99.
