The new Shakespeare's Sonnets for iPad app has been released today. The joint project is a collaboration between Touch Press, Illuminations, Faber and Faber and The Arden Shakespeare. David Tennant is one of forty actors, writers and academics who feature in specially filmed readings of the 154 sonnets. The readings are augmented by full Arden notes and commentaries.
A feature that is bound to be hugely popular within the app is the ability to share the sonnets with non-Apple users. Thanks to this we can bring you clips of David reading his four sonnets:
Sonnet 12: When I do count the clock that tells the time
Sonnet 18: Shall I compare thee to a summer's day
Sonnet 71: No longer mourn for me when I am dead
Sonnet 126: Oh thou my lovely Boy who in thy power
All 154 sonnets are accessible from the Touch Press website
The readings are, however, just a small part of the full contents of the project. The full app containing all of its interactive features is available to buy now from the Apple iTunes store for £9.99 / $13.99 - a must for all fans and scholars of Shakespeare!
