United starring David Tennant, Dougray Scott, Jack O’Connell and Sam Claflin, has been shortlisted in the category of Best Single Drama in the Royal Television Society Awards, it has been announced today.

The drama which tells the tale of Manchester United Football Club following the 1958 Munich Air Disaster, was first aired in April last year. David Tennant plays Jimmy Murphy, head coach, who took over the running of the club. It was written by Chrs Chibnall and directed by James Strong.

United faces competition from two other dramas. The BBC biopic Eric & Ernie, starring Daniel Rigby and Bryan Dick, is the story of the formative years of one of Britain’s greatest comedy double acts, Morecambe And Wise. It was written by Peter Bowker and directed by Johnny Campbell. Random from Channel 4 stars Nadine Marshall and tells of a day in the life of a family disrupted by a single, devastating, random event. It was adapted by Debbie Tucker Green from her own stage play.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by actor and comedian Rob Brydon on Tuesday 20th March at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London starting at 7.00pm.
