Stage is set for Takin'Over the Asylum
You don't have to be mad to work here. But it helps...
Donna Franceschild's BAFTA- award winning TV series Takin' Over the Asylum is headed for the stage.
Franceschild has adapted her five-episode 90's TV drama, which starred David Tennant as the bi-polar Campbell, into a two hour stage show.
The production will be set entirely within St Judes Hospital, but will still include all the main characters and the R&B soundtrack that was a feature of the TV series. The story, however, has been updated to the present day.
Hope and joy in the fragile beauty of the human heart wash over this hilarious and profoundly moving adaptation of Donna Franceschild’s cult 90’s BBC TV series set in Glasgow.
Fighting against mental illness and perceptions of those with mental health problems, Eddie and the patients of St Jude’s strive for their dreams in a struggle to be accepted and celebrated for who they are and what they might be.
A joint production of Citizens Theatre Glasgow and the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, the world- premiere season opens in Glasgow from 14th February to 9th March, before moving to Edinburgh from 13th March to 6th April.
Bookings are now open.

I literally just saw this series for the first time this week, and thought it was amazing! I think it'll be a great play - and wouldn't it be fun if DT made a special cameo appearance?
