David Tennant as Romeo Pic: RSC

David Tennant is thought to be involved in a new production of Romeo And Juliet for BBC Radio, according to a news article on actor Joe Sims. The feature which appeared in the actor’s local online newspaper This Is Bristol celebrates him picking up the People's Favourite Male Performance in the Off West End Theatre Awards. It then goes on to state:

“Mr Sims' next project is with David Tennant working on Romeo and Juliet for Radio 4. He then joins the BBC radio drama company”

However, a press release from the BBC from late last year might through a little more light on the production and suggests that David’s involvement is in not one but two Shakespeare plays which are being recorded for the Shakespeare Season that makes up part of The Cultural Olympiad on the BBC. The strand, Shakespeare And Love brings together two plays which centre on love; one comedy and one tragedy, in the form of Romeo And Juliet and Twelfth Night. Both radio productions are said to involve a single company of actors, although they will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 rather than Radio 4. However, David’s involvement in either production is yet to be formally confirmed by the BBC.

David is already known to be recording a television feature, Prefaces To Shakespeare, which will tell the stories behind some of the bards greatest plays.
