Help Headway Essex scoop £1000 in the monthly Chelmsford Grand Awards scheme.

Chelmsford Grand Awards is a new awards scheme for local voluntary and community groups active in the borough of Chelmsford.  It was created to recognise and support the many small groups doing big things in the community.

£1000 will be awarded each month to the group which receives the highest number of votes.

Headway Essex are one of the three community groups included in the July vote

Headway Essex provides long-term care, information and support for survivors of brain injury, their families and carers.  A brain injury can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time.  It can cause a number of problems including: personality change; impaired memory, mobility, speech and logic; and the inability to organise and to cope under any kind of pressure.

Headway Essex has a community support team providing telephone support and information on the different aspects of brain injury.  They also run support groups, training for carers, home and hospital visits and educational talks.  Currently over 300 families are supported across Essex. If successful they hope that the prize award would go towards supporting the monthly Chelmsford Support Group.

David Tennant has been a patron of the charity since he visited the day centre while researching for his role in the 2007 BBC drama Recovery. In the drama he played Alan Hamilton, a building site manager who suffers a catastrophic and life-altering brain injury following a road accident.
