Today is the anniversary of the first public performance of Much Ado About Nothing at Wyndham’s Theatre in London. The first preview of the riotous Shakespeare comedy starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate started at 7.30pm on Monday 16th May 2011 and ran until Saturday 3rd September. For many fans of both David and Catherine it marked the start of a brilliant summer of theatre, friends and laughs. It received rave reviews from the press, being described as “The feel-good hit of the summer” by the Financial Times.

Much Ado will always hold a special place in the collective hearts of DT Forum as the fan forum was born only a week or so after the play opened and it was the shared experience of the event that helped us to grow and cemented many of the relationships between our forum members.  Every night someone would bring back their tales of the play and photos and stories from the stage door, so even those members who were not able to attend in person could experience the vicarious thrills through the accounts of others.

And, of course, Much Ado About Nothing is not gone forever. It is still available as a download from Digital Theatre, either as a rental or to keep forever.

With thanks to @Tatefans, whose hashtag we unashamedly pinched for the blog title!
