Spies Of Warsaw

David Tennant - Spies Of Warsaw

David Tennant and Janet Montgomery star in this high anticipated pre-war thriller coming to BBC Four in January. The drama was adapted from the novel by Alan Furst by award winning writing duo Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement and was directed on location in Poland by Coky Giedroyc.

David Tennant plays Colonel Jean-Francois Mercier, a chevalier, decorated war hero and the French military attaché to Warsaw. He also works as a secret agent, charged with uncovering schemes by the Nazis who are gathering their forces outside Poland. His life is further complicated when he meets and falls for a beautiful lawyer Anna Skarbek (Janet Montgomery)

The cast also includes Burn Gorman, Anton Lesser, Fenella Woolgar and Julian Harries alongside Polish stars Marcin Dorocinski and Miroslaw Zbrojewicz. The drama also benefits from the beautiful Polish scenery – from the period intricacies of the Old Town of Warsaw to the glory of the Palace at Nieborow to the mountains and steam trains of Kasina Wielka. The result is a convincing, brooding thriller where David’s agent struggles to balance the elements of his life and to work out who he can and can’t trust as the German forces make their inevitable advance on the city.

Spies Of Warsaw comes to BBC Four at 9pm on Wednesday 9th January, with the second concluding part at the same time on Wednesday 16th. It will also be shown on TVP1 in Poland at 8.30pm on Fridays from 11th January and on BBC America from early February. In France it will screen on Arte and in Australia on UKTV with airdates to be confirmed.

Watch out for David on the Jonathan Ross Show on ITV1 on Saturday 5th January where he will be talking about the drama.

David Tennant in Broadchurch

David Tennant stars as DI Alec Hardy in this eight-part drama for ITV who locks horns with colleague DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) when he is brought in to investigate the death of a young boy in a small coastal town. The drama was written by Chris Chibnall and was directed by James Strong and Euros Lyn. It was filmed from the late summer through to early December on location in Bristol, North Somerset and in Bridport in Dorset. The drama boasts a jaw-dropping cast with Arthur Darvill, Vicky McClure, Will Mellor, Andrew Buchan, Pauline Quirke, Jodie Whittaker and Jonathan Bailey among those taking part.

Chris Chibnall says of the series “Broadchurch focuses on a small British community which finds itself at the eye of a storm. In the wake of one boy’s death, the residents of Broadchurch come under scrutiny and suspicion. It’s a story of scale and intimacy, as the lives of the characters are laid bare.”

Jane Featherstone, executive producer adds, “We’re proud to have cast an outstanding array of Britain’s finest performers to appear in Broadchurch. The drama is a snapshot of modern Britain. Its community represents a microcosm of life as we know it with the character of Ellie part of the fabric of Broadchurch. She’s lived amidst the people in this coastal town all her life so when the fabric begins to tear it’s Ellie who will feel the impact the hardest.”
