David Tennant has just appeared at the BBC America Spies Of Warsaw panel at the TCA Summer Press Tour 2012. With David during the fifteen minute panel were writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais and executive producer Richard Fell. Following the events in LA via Twitter just gave a snapshot of some of the conversation but it seemed that the series is one of the most hotly anticipated of BBC America’s fall schedule.
Early tweets as the panel first took to the stage said:
@televisionary: David Tennant dressed in Converse, jeans, a Beatles t-shirt, and suit jacket. Plus,he’s sporting a beard as well. #TCAs12
@EricIGN: David Tennant is unshaven, wearing a Beatles t-shirt and sports coat. So, basically… Get in line, ladies! #TCAs12
@rcatlin: David Tennant at BBC America panel rocking brogue, stubble, Converse high tops, black jeans and jacket over early Beatles T-shirt. #tcas12
@TVGuideHanh: David Tennant’s shoelace is untied. I’ll do it! #TCAs12 #SpiesofWarsaw #DoctorWho
@ReelVixen: David Tennant just mesmerized me with his shoe tying prowess #TCAs12
The collected journalists were then shown a clip of The Spies Of Warsaw to a very favourable reaction
@Suetube: Saw clip of BBC drama The Spies of Warsaw w/ David Tennant. Looks great. Tennant (Dr. Who) on stage now, plays French spy.
@roviTim: David Tennant (#DoctorWho) & Janet Montgomery (#MadeInJersey) star in #TheSpiesOfWarsaw. Clips looked intriguing, promising
The panel talked about the various accents involved in the series and the accents that David Tennant is capable of using, and also about ‘that’ scene on the train (if you’ve read the book you’ll know what we mean) David Tennant proclaimed of his character Mercier “I’m an innocent,” after Fell pointed out that he had been seduced twice.
David also had great things to say about his co-star Janet Montgomery (not present due to her Made In Jersey shooting commitments), saying “I think Janet Montgomery is indisputably going to be a star. I was quite intimidated by the beauty and aura that surround her.”
Conversation inevitably turned to the London Olympic Games. David informed everyone that the British press said Olympics were going to be a disaster before it began. However, “It looks like it’s vaguely working!”” he added. But of course, that is something about being British: “Self-deprecation is something we tend to celebrate.” he stated.
David also said that he was very proud to work for the BBC and had worked for them for most of his career.
More detailed accounts of the panel should start appearing on the websites of the various media organisations shortly.
The Spies Of Warsaw starring David Tennant, Janet Montgomery, Anton Lesser and Burn Gorman is expected to premiere in the UK and Poland in October 2012 and on BBC America also in the fall. A joint production between the BBC, BBC America, TV Poland and ARTEFrance, the series was directed by Coky Giedroyc and filmed on location in Poland. Find out more about the series here
